Description

The NGC 604 nebula lies in a spiral arm of the nearby galaxy M33, located about 2.7 million light-years away in the constellation Triangulum. M33 is a member of the Local Group of galaxies which also includes the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy. The nebula is a giant star-forming region 1,500 light-years across. The image is of a beautiful and complex emission nebula against the background of the galaxy, which is rich in Ha regions. I masked the nebula in the process, increasing its luminance in Ha to reveal details of its structure and highlighting its reddish glow, with the bluish center due to the reflection of newly formed stars.
